The Meals on Wheels service helps people all around New Zealand who are living at home but need a little extra support by providing them with a hot, healthy meal every day. Red Cross volunteers deliver around 12,000 hot meals every week across NZ - would you like to join the local team?
If you're a friendly person who wants to make a tangible difference in the lives of people in your community, and you have a few spare hours during weekdays, this is the role for you!
Min age 18 years. Training 4 to 8 hours. Valid driver's licence. Vehicle with valid registration (rego) and warrant of fitness (WoF). Two character references. You’ll need to be a friendly person who has their own car and a full driver licence. We’ll train you in how to carry out the role and you’ll be supported by Red Cross volunteers or staff members.
In Blenheim, Meals on Wheels are delivered by a team of volunteers who deliver to 3 zones around the greater Blenheim area. Volunteers pick up meals up from Wairau Hospital between 10:30 and 10:45am, deliver the meals with a friendly greeting (the number of meals each day will vary depending on who is in need) and then return containers around 1pm (or earlier). During the route, meal deliverers double check dietary requirements of each meal recipient to ensure everyone gets the correct meal.
