Youth Volunteering

Youth Volunteering

If you're aged 12 - 24, volunteering can be a great way to get involved in your community without needing years of experience or heaps of spare time.

You might want to help at an event, get outdoors, work with animals, support younger people, build leadership skills, add something useful to your CV, or simply see what volunteering is all about.

There is no single way to do it.

Some young people volunteer regularly. Others help with one-off events, short-term projects, school service activities, or opportunities that fit around study, work, sport, and everything else already going on.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering can give you much more than just something to put on your CV.

You can:

  • Build confidence and try things you have not done before
  • Gain practical experience in teamwork, communication, leadership and problem-solving
  • Meet new people and make connections outside your usual circles
  • Explore careers or areas of study before committing to them
  • Build experience for job, scholarship or course applications
  • Support causes that actually matter to you
  • Feel more connected to your community
  • Have some fun while doing something worthwhile

And yes, it can look great on a CV too.

"But I'm already busy...

We get it.

School, study, work, sport, family, friends and life in general can make the idea of committing to a volunteer role feel like one more thing to squeeze in.

That's why we work with organisations to provide different types of opportunities.

You might volunteer:

  • Every week
  • Once a month
  • For a few weeks
  • At a one-off event
  • During school holidays
  • As part of a group
  • For a short project or specific task

The important thing is finding something that fits your life rather than trying to make your life fit around volunteering.

How can Volunteer Marlborough help?

You don't need to figure it all out on your own.

We can help you:

  • Find volunteer opportunities that match your interests and availability
  • Work out what kinds of roles might suit you
  • Connect with community organisations across Marlborough
  • Understand what to expect when you volunteer
  • Find opportunities to build skills and experience
  • Explore leadership and community involvement

If there's nothing on our current list that feels quite right, get in touch anyway. Sometimes we can help find another option or connect you with an organisation directly.
