Would you like to practice conversational English supporting migrants and former refugees in Marlborough as they learn English and integrate into kiwi culture? English Language Partners trains thousands of volunteers across NZ to provide one-to-one ESOL home tutoring - a program that is hugely helpful for people learning English!

The Marlborough branch of English Language Partners is currently recruiting for the July 2022 intake.

Volunteers are paired with a learner and arrange to meet on a regular basis for approximately an hour at a time. During these in-home meetings, volunteer home tutors and learners practice conversational English in relation to a variety of activities and settings. Along the way, the learner will also learn about NZ culture and customs from the tutor. In addition, as a tutor, you may also have the opportunity to learn about other languages and cultures.

Volunteers of any age are welcome to apply. Applications from young people will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Full training is provided. The next Home Tutor training sessions will be on the 9th, 16th, and 23 July (all Saturdays). All three sessions start at 9 am and end at 4 pm. You will need to attend all three. Location: Marlborough House, Blenheim.

Volunteers are asked to contribute $40 to the printing of resources, and training.

Requirements:

Prior teaching/tutoring experience is not necessary but it will be beneficial.
Volunteer tutors are not required to be fluent in any language other than English, but this may help.
Awareness and acceptance of cultural diversity is essential. Patience, reliability, and friendliness.
