Are you someone who loves the outdoors, doesn’t mind getting your hands a little dirty, and wants to make a real difference for our native coastal wildlife? We’re looking for volunteers to help check and clear predator traps along the stunning Marfells Beach.

Every couple of months (or whenever suits you), you'll head out for a 5km return walk along the beach—flat terrain but stony underfoot—stopping to check 24 traps along the way. The role requires moderate fitness, as well as a strong stomach; clearing traps can sometimes involve unpleasant smells, maggots, and the occasional decomposing critter. But your mahi plays a vital role in protecting threatened seabirds and fragile ecosystems along our coastline.

We’ll provide full training and support—no previous experience needed, just a willingness to learn, a love for nature, and a sense of humour!

What you’ll gain:

  • A peaceful walk with purpose in a spectacular coastal environment
  • A deeper connection with conservation efforts in our region
  • Knowledge of predator control and wildlife protection
  • That good feeling you get when you’re doing something that matters
Requirements:

Moderate fitness required.
The 5km return walk is flat but stony.

Time commitment:

2 to 3 hours once every couple of months as suits.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
