Marlborough Women's Refuge board secretary

Marlborough Women's Refuge and Sexual Violence Support Centre provides support and advocacy for women and children in Marlborough that are experiencing family harm and sexual violence. We have a great team of paid staff and a supportive governance board.

We are looking for someone to join us as a contributing board member and secretary. The secretary's main responsibility is to take minutes at the monthly meetings as well as provide some administration support to the board.
As a board member you will be part of the team and responsible for contributing towards:

  • the strategic direction of refuge
  • reviewing policies
  • the financial management of the refuge

This is a volunteer role.

The refuge movement has four key cornerstones: feminism, nurturing diversity, parallel development and collectivism. Board members need to uphold these values.

Requirements:

Computer literacy
Board or secretary experience preferred
Strategic thinker
Aligned with the purpose of Women's Refuge

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

One meeting per month (approx 1.5 hours)
Meeting prep
Minutes/other secretariat work (approx 4 hours a month)
