What is Volunteer Services?

One of the questions we get a lot is "I'm told I can make an appointment with your coordinator for Volunteer Services about volunteering - what exactly happens when we meet?"

Our Coordinator for Volunteer Services, Jyn, is a knowledgeable source of information about volunteering and she's here to answer any questions that you might have, and give suggestions of where you could apply. These conversations are usually done in-person but sometimes they'll take place over the phone or via Zoom.

When you sit down with Jyn, she will ask questions so that she can understand what kind of opportunity you're interested in so she can help you find a suitable position. She will also show you how to navigate the website and give you some tips for searching through the database of volunteer roles. We don't need you to bring anything with you to the appointment, but we do encourage you to think a bit about what you're interested in.

Usually, Jyn will aim to leave you with 3-5 suggestions of roles to apply for. After that, it's up to you to take the initiative and apply directly to the organisations you're interested in. We don't directly match you with any opportunities, nor do we do any of the pre-placement screening like record checks.

After giving you a list of suggestions or helping you apply online, Jyn will make sure that you understand the next steps and also your rights and responsibilities as a volunteer. Our goal at Volunteer Marlborough is to have people feel empowered in their volunteering journey and roles like Jyn's are a huge part of that.

Feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions or need some help while looking for a volunteer role. Call 03-577-9388 or email us.
