We love telling local volunteer stories so we're rapt to be able to share a quick Q & A we did with Mia from the Rarangi Surf Life Saving Club.

How old are you and where do you study?
13 years old. I’m in Year 9 at Marlborough Girls' College.

What group or organisation do you volunteer for?
Rarangi Surf Life Saving Club

What do you do when you volunteer?
I'm learning how to become a lifeguard so that I can help people who are in trouble in the water or if they get injuries on the beach.

What is your favourite part of volunteering?
Getting to help people have a great and safe day at the beach.

What have you learned during your volunteering?
I have learned so much with Rarangi Surf Life Saving - from first aid skills to developing my skills for interacting with other people.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about starting volunteering?
Anything you do to help the community is amazing!

What is your favourite thing about Marlborough?
The people, and even though Marlborough is a small community there are so many opportunities for young people!
