This October, Volunteer Marlborough is proud to recognise Pamela Hunt as our Volunteer of the Month!
Pamela is the Blenheim Coordinator for Blind & Low Vision NZ, where her work fosters connection, support, and friendship among Marlborough's blind and low vision community.
As a coordinator, Pamela's role is simple yet impactful: she calls members each month to arrange a friendly catch-up on the first Thursday. "Talking to the people is my favourite part," she shares. "All my blind and low vision friends are lovely."
Pamela began volunteering in 2012 after experiencing changes in her own vision. "My sight started to go, and I met a few people in a similar position. That's when I decided to coordinate it all," she explains. Her efforts have since made a significant impact, creating a space where members can friendship and support. "We help each other in different ways but are always there for one another," she says.
When she's not volunteering, Pamela stays busy as a member of the local Wesleyan Church, helping with Operation Cover Up, and attending the Totara Club on Mondays.
Her advice to aspiring volunteers? "It's a very satisfying position to be in. You get more out of it than you put into it. If you want to be helpful, just do what you can."
Thank you, Pamela, for your dedication and the positive difference you're making in the Marlborough community!
