Volunteer of the Month (May) - Mackenzie Osborne

Our team has been a bit busy the last couple of months and so has everyone else, so let's catch up on one very important thing....

The Volunteer of the Month Award for May 2023 was awarded to Mackenzie Osborne.

Mackenzie has become an valuable member of the larger team at Marlborough Youth Trust where she holds down the fort at the reception desk on Tuesdays, greeting each visitor to the MySpace centre, answering the phones, filling in where needed. She also helps out with a number of programmes run through MySpace including the Youth in Emergency Services programme; Sticks & Wheels; Youth Group; and the 18+ Young Adults Group, not to mention bigger events like Spring Fest and the recent Matariki celebrations at Rarangi.

When we met with Mackenzie, we were struck by how friendly and cheerful she is, and how genuinely keen she is to help people and give back to the community.

"I was asked by Jo Lane [MYT Manager] to try filling in at reception on Tuesdays when Ruby has a day off," says Mackenzie. "I gave it a go and it turned out a I really liked it! I really like being a friendly face when people come into the building."

When Mackenzie isn't volunteering for something at MySpace, she works part-time at a local retirement village as a kitchen hand.

We asked Mackenzie what she would way to someone - especially a young person - who was thinking about volunteering: "Come on down to MySpace and ask to help out!". Ruby King (Junior Youth Worker) says the team at Marlborough Youth Trust just loves Mackenzie and are very glad that she's there.

Thank you, Mackenzie, for everything you do to give back to the community and to the youth at MySpace in particular!
