Volunteer of the Month - Joy Fletcher

14 April 2021 | News

The Volunteer of the Month Award for April 2021 was awarded to Joy Fletcher.

Joy has been volunteering her time to the Picton Little Theatre committee since 2002...19 years! Until recently, she has contributed to almost every aspect of the running of the Little Theatre. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing all aspects of hosting around 10 shows a year and working with local community groups who hire the theatre for various events. Joy's fantastic administration skills show there are many ways people can support voluntary organisations.

She is passionate about the history of the Little Theatre and has stacks of news clippings and posters which will be taonga for future generations coming through. Joy had intended to take a step back from full duties from February 2020 but the resignation of a committee member mid-year saw her rise to the challenge and Joy held the reins of Treasurer until a new Committee Member came on board at the Little Theatre's AGM in February this year. Although this year she has been able to drop her volunteer hours down to 2-3 hours per week, last year it was closer to 10-15 hours.

When nominating Joy for this award, Chrissy Powlesland said, "Joy is very humble and just gets on with the job. I'm really inspired by Joy's tenure with the Picton Little Theatre, and I believe that needs to have some acknowledgement. She was a librarian for many years, and her involvement in both the theatre and the RSA means she is well loved by and known within the community. She is tenacious and hard-working, and as her name says - she brings joy to others".

We are sure that many will be inspired by Joy and her effort. Thank you for all that you do, Joy!
