Volunteer of the Month - Fiona Jones

18 March 2021 | News

The Volunteer of the Month Award for March 2021 was awarded to Fiona Jones. She was nominated by the Volunteer Coordinator of Selmes Garden Trust, Denise McQuade.

Fiona is retired and volunteers her time helping in the Selmes Garden Trust nurseries. She goes along to the nursery almost every day of the week and will work tirelessly in whatever is going on at the centre at any given time. Recently she has worked with the disabled staff to help bag over 500 fruit trees. She also does the centre's washing and removes their food waste.

In her nomination Denise says that Fiona regularly volunteers for up to 25 hours per week and in the past year has contributed well over 1000 hours of her own time to helping the Trust. She went on to say, "Fiona did a certificate in horticulture and came to us initially to gain nursery experience for her course but then chose to stay on as it helped her move into retirement while still maintaining contact with the wider community. Fiona is a rare breed of volunteer and we are happy to acknowledge her contributions to the centre and our community."

Congratulations Fiona!
