Many volunteer board members step into governance roles because they care about their community — not because they’ve had formal training in governance, compliance, or financial oversight.
This 12-session series is designed to support volunteer board members to feel more confident, capable, and clear in their role.
Building Governance Confidence is a practical, discussion-based programme that strengthens governance capability while reducing risk for both individuals and organisations.
Session 12: Governance in Practice — Embedding What You’ve Learned
Good governance is not built in a single workshop — it grows through reflection, practice, and ongoing learning. This final session brings participants back to the key concepts explored throughout the series, with the benefit of experience, discussion, and a deeper understanding of what governance looks like in real life.
We’ll reflect on what has shifted in how participants see their board role, what practices have genuinely stuck, and where old habits or challenges may still be getting in the way. The focus is on turning learning into action, and making governance stronger through consistent, practical habits rather than one-off improvements.
We’ll also explore what effective ongoing governance learning looks like, how board members can continue to grow and contribute over time, and where to go for support, advice, and constructive challenge in the future. A fitting final session for anyone wanting to move beyond theory and build lasting confidence, capability, and good governance practice.
