10-Pin Bowling Manager

Are you a friendly, outgoing person who likes to encourage others?
Special Olympics Marlborough 10-pin bowling team is looking for a new Team Manager or Managers (this could be a shared). This role will involve helping to plan the team draws each Saturday, encouraging athletes and supporting the team manager, liaising with the athletes, their families and support providers. Bowling skills are not essential.

Special Olympics Marlborough runs a training session for the 10-pin team every Saturday morning from 9:45 to 11:45 am at the Blenheim Indoor Sports Centre on Batty's Road. This sport is very popular with our members with up to 25 players registered. Skills levels vary but enthusiasm is strong throughout the team.
The Team Manager helps by supporting the coach, helping to plan team draws each week, supporting and encouraging athletes, celebrating their achievements, empowering them, and gently encouraging them to continue to do their best.

In addition to training sessions, volunteers with Special Olympics will also have the opportunity to travel with the team to regional and National events. Next regional competition: is in Christchurch in May.

All volunteers are highly valued and supported by a dedicated committee. Special Olympics Marlborough has been running for over 20 years with a current membership of 60 athletes participating in a variety of sports.

There is always more than one person working with our groups at each training session and event.

In this role, you will gain skills and find huge reward in working with and helping people with learning difficulties. You will be joining an enthusiastic and dedicated team who are all part a long-established international organization that aims to provide positive sporting and social opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

There will be induction and training for volunteers and a comprehensive handbook is provided and all volunteers are Police vetted. The organization also has easy online training modules we encourage volunteers to complete.

There is no age restriction for this role.


You only need to be friendly, patient, enthusiastic, and have a good sense of humour. Experience in 10 Pin Bowling is not necessary.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Every Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:45am. This time and role can be shared with others.
