MoVERS Network July 2023 - What's up with youth?

MoVERS is open to anyone in a role involving the management, leadership, or coordination of volunteers in the Marlborough region.

At this month's MoVERS (Managers of Volunteers - Education, Resources, Sharing/Support) event...

We've all heard the same things, over and over again, about the young people in our community and around the world, right?:

• Young people are lazy, unreliable, irresponsible
• Young people are selfish
• Young people don't want to work hard and don't want to learn
• Young people don't have the ability to lead
• Young people's contributions to policy and programmes is unnecessary
• Young people don't care about their communities, getting involved, or giving their time

MYTHS!! Every. Single. One of them.

Take a look at any age demographic and you will find individuals who fit every one of those points, so why do our young people get painted with the brush more than most anyone else?

This month, we invite you to come along and take part in a round table discussion with a selection of young people from our community. Let's chat about the misperceptions around our young people, how they feel about them, how they would like to get involved, how you can be more youth ready, and how the lines of communication could be improved. Please come with an open mind and open heart, willing to listen to and learn from these young people.

This networking and learning event will take place in person and will be held in the meeting room of the Marlborough Community Centre building at 25 Alfred Street. Please feel free to bring your lunch.
